On August 4, a group of Dwyer Instruments, Inc. volunteers visited the Dunes Summer Theatre. The team assisted with a number of projects, including: replacing deteriorating steps; painting areas inside the theatre; and enhancing the landscaping around the front entrance.

The Dunes Arts Foundation (DAF), a non-profit organization, sponsors the Dunes Summer Theatre. After receiving a generous donation, the DAF set to renovating and restoring the historic landmark (The Dunes Arts Foundation Blog). It is located 1.3 miles from the Dwyer headquarters in Michigan City. The theatre provides students and aspiring actors the opportunity to develop their skills while providing the community with live entertainment.

Dwyer Instruments Senior Human Resources Manager, Shawn Rutkowski, noted:

The Dunes Summer Theatre is a symbol of the rich history and art Michigan City offers. Restoring the theatre and grounds was an enriching experience. I look forward to seeing the enhancements continue and providing additional support to this great foundation.

The Dwyer team visit was part of a large-scale volunteer effort by local businesses and the United Way of LaPorte County. This was the 15th annual “Day of Caring” in LaPorte and Porter Counties. Volunteers participated in their choice of over 80 projects at local non-profit locations (Greater La Porte Chamber of Commerce).

Amy Black, President of the Dunes Arts Foundation, Inc. stated:

We can't believe how much work we accomplished. Many of the projects we just couldn't have done without [volunteer] support. The folks at Dwyer Instruments were simply amazing. Our patio, tech booth and orchestra pit, and stairway to the stars look fabulous!

In the past, Dwyer Instruments teams have assisted at the Michiana Humane Society and Michigan City Area Schools Kindergarten Countdown Program. Dwyer strives to support both its community and the future generation of engineers.
