On November 10, Dwyer-EMC in Kingsbury, IN sponsored a blood drive with the American Red Cross. Many employees participated from each building, and a few participated from outside of the EMC facilities.
According to statistics gathered by the Red Cross, "[e]very two seconds someone in the United States needs blood" ("Blood Facts and Statistics," n.d.). The more blood that is on hand, the more quickly an individual can receive treatment. A donation might be used to save the life of a young child, a family that was in a car accident, or a cancer patient. There are a large number of potential donors in the United States but a small number of individuals that actually do so. "Although an estimated 38 percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate, less than 10% actually do each year" ("Blood Facts and Statistics," n.d.). Each contribution is important when so few donations are brought in.
More than 40 registered donors and 14 new donors were present at this year's event, resulting in 37 units for donation. We are very impressed with the turnout we had and want to thank all of the people who signed up to donate.
